    SMART Display Firmware Update Support

SMART recommends updating displays through an active internet connection whenever possible.

    Prerequisites

    • Display connected to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
    • Correct date and time configured on the display.
    • Stable power source.

    Procedure

    1. Turn on the SMART Board display.
    2. Verify the display has network connectivity.
    3. From the Home screen, tap: (Settings → System → About → Check for Updates)
    4. If a firmware update is available, a notification will appear.
    5. Select Update.
    6. The display will download and install the firmware automatically.
    7. During installation:
    • The display may restart several times.
    • Touch functionality, front control buttons, and the remote control may temporarily become unavailable.
    • Do not disconnect power.

    8. Wait until the display returns to normal operation.

    9. Verify the installed firmware version under: (Settings → System → About)

SMART indicates that displays connected to the internet automatically check for firmware updates and notify users when updates are available.

Use this procedure when the display does not have internet access or when directed by SMART Support.

    Prerequisites

    • USB flash drive formatted FAT32.
    • Minimum 1 GB of free space.
    • Access to SMART’s firmware download website.
    • Correct firmware package for the specific MX V5 display model.

    Download Firmware

On a computer, navigate to the SMART Support download page:

    https://support.smarttech.com

    1. Locate the firmware corresponding to the specific MX V5 display model.
    2. Download the firmware package.
    3. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
    4. Locate the file named: update.zip
    5. Copy the update.zip file to the root directory of the FAT32-formatted USB drive.

     Install Firmware

    1. Ensure the display is powered on.
    2. Insert the USB drive into the front USB service port of the display.

    5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
    6. Confirm the installation.
    7. Allow the update process to complete without interruption.
    8. The display may reboot multiple times.

    DO NOT:

    • Remove the USB drive.
    • Disconnect AC power.
    • Attempt to operate the display during installation.
    • Once complete, remove the USB drive.
    • Verify the updated firmware version.

SMART’s installation documentation cautions technicians not to remove a USB drive containing firmware updates until installation has completed successfully.

    Post-Update Verification

    After any firmware update:

    • Verify touch functionality.
    • Test front control panel operation.
    • Test remote control operation.
    • Verify HDMI input switching.
    • Confirm audio functionality.
    • Confirm network connectivity.

    If the update fails:

    1. Restart the display.
